Shipping Data Center & Medical Equipment
Shock, moisture and unplanned handoffs are the three enemies of high-value electronics freight. Controlling them is a spec sheet, not a rush service.
A server rack and an MRI coil have the same three enemies: shock, moisture and an unplanned handoff. High-value electronics freight is not about speed. It is about controlling those three variables from dock to dock, and proving you did.
The trailer: air-ride, and climate when the route demands it
Air-ride suspension is the baseline; leaf springs transmit exactly the vibration profile sensitive equipment is rated against. Moisture is the second spec: a sealed, watertight box, and on routes with large temperature swings a reefer run in climate mode, because condensation inside crated electronics is as destructive as rain.
The driver: no-touch, and briefed anyway
These loads are shipper load and count, no-touch for the driver. The driver still needs to know what is in the box, because the decisions that damage electronics are driving decisions: dock approach speed, where the trailer sits overnight, whether the load gets a second look after a hard stop. A briefed driver makes different choices than one hauling "FAK, do not open".
The schedule: the install window is the deadline
Data center and medical equipment is capex freight. The delivery date is set by a crane booking, a rigging crew or a commissioning window, not by a transit table. The plan runs backward from the install: staging, delivery appointment, and a truck that arrives early enough to matter but not so early there is nowhere to put the cargo.
Air-ride stated on the rate confirmation, with climate control named when the route or season calls for it.
Who loads, who counts, who seals, and what the driver signs for. A seal number on the BOL closes most arguments before they open.
High-value loads get a tighter check-call rhythm and a no-unattended-parking instruction, written down.
Match cargo insurance to the invoice value.
Standard cargo limits are contractual, not regulatory. On a seven-figure load the limit is a line item to verify, not assume.
Why this is fleet freight for us
Our own trucks haul this category first: our driver, our trailer, our shop having inspected the suspension that week. When volume needs the network, the same specs go on the tender and the carrier is verified against them at dispatch.
